Transformations in Writing

Resolutions

I had hoped to finish a first draft of a novel-in-stories, but the month of December was filled with tasks and programs and holiday concerns that took me away from a solid writing schedule. That's okay. I am about two-thirds finished with this new project, tentatively titled HOW SHE LEFT. Now it will take me into the deep winter months. I know that I cannot move forward with other writing until I finish these vignettes and confront all that they represent for both the adult writer in me and the child in me. I want them to be well-written of course, and this sometimes borders on obsession, but so what? I am also reading and rereading some of my favorite short stories: William Trevor, Colm Toibin, Mary Gordon. As the holiday season fades into winter, I will winnow into this good work.
